Spiced Applesauce Doughnuts

Destined to become a new tradition, these doughnuts will be gobbled up in no time when enjoyed for breakfast or as a special snack after a trip to the apple orchard or any family outing! These indulgent pastries are so easy to make, you’ll get requests to make them often!
Ingredients:
- Vegetable oil for deep frying
- Doughnuts
- 2 cups Bisquick™ Original Pancake & Baking Mix
- 1/3 cup unsweetened applesauce
- 2 tablespoons brown sugar, packed
- 1 teaspoon apple pie spice
- Topping
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon apple pie spice
Directions:
- In deep fryer or 3-quart saucepan, heat 2 to 3 inches of oil to 375°F.
- Meanwhile, in medium bowl, stir Doughnut ingredients until well blended. Gather dough into a ball. Place dough on surface dusted with Bisquick mix; knead 10 to 12 times. Roll dough with rolling pin 1/2-inch thick. Cut with 3-inch doughnut cutter; reroll dough to make remaining doughnuts.
- In gallon-size resealable food-storage plastic bag, combine Topping ingredients.
- Carefully place 2 or 3 doughnuts at a time in hot oil. Fry 1 to 1 1/2 minutes, turning once, until golden brown. Using slotted spoon, remove doughnuts to paper towel–lined heatproof plate; cool 2 to 3 minutes. Place 3 to 4 doughnuts in bag; seal and shake to coat all sides.
